This past month has been an extreme challenge for me. I decided to openly blog about the experiences I have had in the last four weeks because I think others can understand and appreciate it. Two weeks ago I had to take my grandmother to the hospital and she is now recovering in a therapy center for a serious condition. Over the course of this month I have been busy transitioning to a new semester of tutoring. As with most families, whenever there is a serious illness that threatens your loved ones, you experience depression and sadness. This always affects creativity.
I find the hardest thing for me as an artist is finding motivation to stay creatively inspired. With everything going on this month and on the news, positive creative inspiration and blocking out the negative noise has been difficult to do. I keep books and magazines around that help stimulate my imagination and I follow many inspirational youtubers for this reason. I find comfort in watching their channels and seeing that I am not alone in this ocean of stress. I think it’s important for all of us to find mentors, bloggers whose voice keeps us motivated to express ourselves creatively, and positive spaces to cope with what life deals us.
On that note, this morning I broke from the creative slump I had been feeling and decided to create a simple, colorful watercolor painting of a bird. My goal for 2017 is to find a way to support myself through my art so that I can continue to support my family members. I hope you enjoy this piece and if you would like to purchase it you can find it on my etsy shop.
