The most satisfying part of painting is adding shadows and highlights. I feel like shadows add depth to any piece and emotional response. Since I began working in graphic design 10 years ago, I have been trying to find myself somewhere in the field. I was so caught up in waiting for a style to emerge I did not see my style was already there. Illustration is part of identity because it demands that the designer become a visionary. It’s not a vocation because it requires us to view the world a different way every day.
Our style emerges from the rhythm of our hands when we create.
I am going to start the 365 project again and work on one painting a day. I may not be able to post one watercolor a day but I will be working on one a day. When I broke my wrist in 2015, the 365 paint project was the most progress I had ever made toward my goals with art and developing a style. I am beginning this project again, along with an herb calendar. There will be a post about this project coming soon. I am hoping that it will inspire other artists to paint every day.
